Marco and his wife, Marjolein, left their home in the Netherlands for Suriname in 1989, serving a variety of social welfare organizations regionally. In 2000 they returned to the Netherlands to attend to the needs of their three children. From there, Marco worked to build networks of Christian media in former Eastern Bloc countries, and he served as the pastor of missions-minded local church.
In 2012, the Lord called them back to Suriname, this time with World Team, to accompany the Wayana and Trio indigenous tribes to help those churches grow into mature interdependence. Currently, they are facilitating reciprocal ministry between the Wayana in Suriname and a network of First Nations churches in Canada. In 2014, Marco joined the WT America’s Area Leadership Team and assumed the role of Area Director in 2022.
