Where was God?
“Where was God?” Hope for Milan Answers
Acts of evil can leave people asking “Where was God?” When tragedy strikes at home, the church can be heard and seen, actively sharing the hope we have in Christ. Sadly, in many parts of the world there is no one to tell people that God is present and that His heart is broken by the evil we do to one another.
A man in Milan, Italy a man went on a rampage with a pickaxe leaving three people dead and two people wounded. The man was homeless, and reportedly deprived of sleep and food. He told people he was just listening to the evil voices in his head. Where was God when this happened? Local religious leaders responded by saying that “God was distracted. They missed the opportunity to reassure people that God is good and that He never sleeps. He cares so deeply that even a sparrow falling from the sky does not escape His attention.
That same neighborhood is home to a World Team church plant called Hope for Milan. Just weeks before the incident, the church had chosen not to renew the rental contract on their meeting place. Instead they had decided to meet outside for their morning services and evangelistic events this spring and summer; meeting in the parks and the piazza near the site of the recent murders. Their presence in the parks and piazza is drawing the attention of the community. Pray for those who come, for their personal discovery that God does care and is present in all things. You make it possible for our workers to serve as a light where there is great oppression and darkness. Together we are making Christ known in Milan and everywhere we go.
